Cormac MCDonnel successfully defended his PhD thesis on Laser ablation of ITO in December 2015. From left to right : Dr. Gerard O'Connor, Cormac McDonnell, Prof. Martin Leahy, Dr. Alexander Goncharov, and Prof. Nadjib Semmar
Spring secondments started with the two week stay of Warrant Wong and continued with the two weeks secondment of Beatriz Sanchez (M-Solv UK) and Tino Sin (M-solv HK). From left: Tino Sin, Beatriz Sanchez and Gerard O’Connor
March was reserved for dissemination of Laser Connect project results. Firstly, Adam Collins and Camilo Prieto participated to ILAS 2013 conference (http://ilas2013.co.uk/index.html). The results were presented during the poster session. During Femtomat 2013 (http://www.nanoandphotonics.at/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4&Itemid=14), Gerard O'Connor, as one of invited speakers, gave a talk about short pulse laser ablation of very thin films on dielectric substrates for display applications. Danijela Rostohar during the poster session presented recent results on cutting dielectrics with a fs laser.
During February, Beatriz Sanchez from M-solv UK spent 2 weeks at NCLA. During her secondment , Beatriz was involved in finilizing the new experimental station. She also had chance to get training on the NCLA ps work station
New Year at NCLA started with new secondments. Leslie from M-solv HK and Camilo Prieto from M-solv UK during their secondments in January were busy in building a new experimental work station. Secondments in January (from left): Camilo Prieto, Gerard O'Connor and Leslie Kong
During November 2012 Gerard O'Connor and Adam Collins spent a month at M-solv HK. They have chance to visit two big events: International Hi-Tech Fair and 2012 International Printed Cirsuit & Electronics Assembly Fair.
Autumn at NCLA brought a lot of new work packages and new secondments. Terry Tsang was the first secondee at the beginning of September and started new work packages related to PV applications. In October Tino Sin and Taku Sato were very active users of NCLA ultrafast lasers in exploring new applications. Tino also had chance to get training on some characterization tools. Secondments in October: Taku Sato (left) and Tino Sin (right) Experience of Kenny Kwok on working with different laser systems was very useful in planning and designing of experiments with deep UV ns laser. Camilo Prieto during his long stay at NCLA will conduct several experiments related to applications in touch panels and PV industry. New samples also will required good characterization strategy. Secondments in November: Camilo Prieto (left) and Kenny Kwok (right)
After successful experimentation at NCLA’s ultrafast facility in Galway, M-Solv have had laser processed samples qualified by end users, which in turn has led to new machine sales for M-Solv. M-Solv are proud to add to their growing supply of ultrafast laser processing tools for industry New M-solv ultrafast processing tool (left), Gerard O'Connor, David Milne and Warrent Wong at M-solv UK during Gerard's secondment (September 2012)
From Aplir 18th Adam was for a period of one month at M-solv UK. During this period Adam was investigate laser ablation of dielectrics by lasers with ns pulse duration.
European Material Research Society traditionally organizing in May E-MRS Spring meeting.
The Spring Meeting E-MRS 2012 took place from 14 to 18 May in Strasbourg, France and included 25 parallel symposia, one plenary session, and one exhibition. Two members of our team were granted possibility to present the recent research progress on laser processing of thin films (Laser materials processing for micro and nano applications symposia): · Effect of spot size and numerical aperture on the single pulse ablation threshold of a transparent conductive thin film presented by C. McDonnell · Selective laser ablation of thin transparent conductors using short and ultra-short pulse lasers presented by D. Rostohar We are proud to announce that Cormac’s poster presentation was recognized as the best presentation during the Laser materials processing for micro and nano applications symposia |
